Vern is an herbalist who has the power to synthesize body-altering materials in the form of potions, pills, incense and more. Rather than use his powers for good, Vern seeks profit, selling cheap body augmentation drugs that often have pretty harsh side effects. For instance, a rat transformation potion may also shrink you down to the size of a rat. Vern doesn't always tell his customers about these quirks until they've already paid. He usually targets curious, thrill-seeking rich men that fall in line at the threat of violence and thus won't raise a stink about defective or misleading product.

Vern commands a gang of misfits: a muscle-obsessed pig, a dumb fat dodo bird, and a slimy weasel with a homebrew prosthetic arm.
